Title: “Evaluation of Phytochemical content, Antioxidant, Antibacterial, Anticancer and

Antiglycating Potential of Wild Jackfruit (Artocarpus hirsutus Lam) Seeds”

Name of the Principal Investigator: Dr. Radhika A,   Assistant Professor of Biochemistry

Executive Summary

The study was aimed at identifying the nutritional, phytochemical, antioxidant, antibacterial and anticancer effect of various seed extracts of Artocarpus hirsutus Lam. The results of the study are as follows. The seeds were found to have high nutritional significance as evident from the amount of protein, fat, total carbohydrate and vital mineral composition. The seed extracts especially the methanolic and ethanolic extracts were found to be excellent source of several important phytochemicals and exhibited potent antioxidant potential. The extracts showed significant antiglycating potential comparable with that of amino guanidine. Anticancer activity studied on A375 skin cancer cell lines indicated potent activity in methanolic extract. The extracts also exhibited antibacterial effect. In conclusion the seeds can be effectively developed as a nutritive value added product and extracts for various therapeutics.
